Former Paterson superintendent leading in Prosser school race
Prosser School Board incumbent Peggy Douglas received 661 votes to challenger Patty Johnson’s 363 votes in preliminary tallies released Tuesday night. Douglas had 65 percent of the vote to Johnson’s 35 percent.
Douglas was appointed in May to the position previously held by the late Gayle Wheeler. She was hired by the Prosser School District to work in the business office in 1988 and served as Prosser Superintendent Ray Tolcacher’s assistant for nine years.
She began working for the Paterson School District as the business manager in 1991 and became the first full-time superintendent in 2000. She retired at the end of last school year.
Three other positions for seats on the board were uncontested.
