Another shakeup in back-and-forth Pasco school race. It’s coming down to the wire
Amanda Brown took the lead Thursday night after being locked in a dead heat with Steven Christensen since election night in the race for Pasco School Board’s District 3 seat.
The Kennewick dual language teacher now leads the three-term incumbent by 48 votes.
Brown has 50.52%, or 1,555 votes. Christensen has 48.96%, or 1,507 votes.
It’s likely that there are still some ballots left to count in the race.
Franklin County election officials estimate there area about 1,822 votes left to count, though it’s unclear how many of those are voters from the northeast Pasco district.
Online ballot totals will be updated next at 6 p.m. Monday because of the weekend and Friday’s Veterans Day holiday.
Christensen is a three-term incumbent seeking another term on the Pasco School Board.
He works as a nuclear ventilation engineer on the Hanford nuclear reservation. His family has lived in Pasco 21 years, and he does not currently have children in Pasco schools.
Brown is a dual language teacher who works in the Kennewick School District. She’s hoping to bring change to the seat, and an insider’s perspective of what teaching today is like.
She’s a mother of two Pasco School District students.
It’s the tightest race on the Pasco board this year. The district put all seats up for reelection this year because of a new elections system and new district boundaries.
Election results will be certified in Franklin County on Nov. 29.
