Update: Weather delays GWay work at Columbia Point. Here’s the new plan

The city of Richland has rescheduled overnight work planned Monday night George Washington Way and Columbia Point Drive due to rain and wind.

The project, which began in September, was supposed to wrap up this week as workers finalized striping and other markings on the new pavement.

Here’s the updated schedule.

Friday, Dec. 12

Weather permitting, Columbia Point Drive will be closed at George Washington Way from 10 p.m.-5 a.m., Friday morning.

While crews are completing final striping and crosswalk markings, motorists will have to drive around the intersection via a detour to Comstock Street and Bradley Boulevard.

Expect periodic land closures on George Washington Way as well during the final striping.

Dec. 9-Dec. 14

Expect occasional lane closures through the remainder of the week as crews clean up the site.

The George Washington Way South Improvement Project aims to improve how traffic flows through one of Richland’s busiest intersections. The project added islands to the area around the WinCo shopping center.

H.W. Lochner is the engineer and planning consultant. Ellison Earthworks is the contractor.

The George Washington Way improvement project is separate from the city’s intent to transform sections of George Washington and Jadwin Avenue into one-way streets, a $25 million couplet it calls the “Downtown Loop.”
