Controversial, ‘revered and reviled’ commentator to speak in Tri-Cities
Jordan Peterson, a controversial cultural commentator, has been booked to speak at the Toyota Center in Kennewick on his “We Who Wrestle With God Tour.”
His book of the same name will be released next month.
Peterson, who considers himself a traditionalist, is a psychologist and professor emeritus at the University of Toronto. He previously taught at Harvard University.
The New Yorker called him a revered and reviled intellectual in a profile titled “Jordan Peterson’s Gospel of Masculinity” in 2018.
It was published two years after he rose to prominence for his opposition to an amendment to the Canadian Human Rights Act and the Criminal Code that would have protected gender expression and gender identity.
He was suspended from Twitter for harassment, before the social media platform became X, after referring to actor Elliot Page, a trans man, by his former name.
According to CBS news Peterson responded to the suspension with a a video, saying, “Up yours, woke moralists. We’ll see who cancels who!”
He is popular on YouTube, where he takes on topics like cancel culture and political correctness.
He has written four books, including the bestselling “12 Rules for Life.” He also co-founded the Peterson Academy offering online higher education.
General ticket sales to his Kennewick appearance start Friday, Oct. 25, at livenation.com.
He’s also scheduled to speak March 30 at Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle.
