Here are 2 chances to let Pasco leaders know your thoughts on retail cannabis sales

Pasco city leaders are hosting two sessions to gauge community thoughts on lifting a ban on retail cannabis in the city limits.

The city council is currently considering which zones might work best for the retail businesses if they were allowed in certain areas.

City officials also are interested in hearing any questions, concerns and ideas on the issue. The sessions are:

  • Tuesday, Sept. 27, at 6:30 p.m. at the HAPO (TRAC) Center, 6600 Burden Blvd.
  • Tuesday, Oct. 4, at 6:30 p.m. at the Pasco Police Regional Training Center, 204 W. Clark Street.

Attendees also will be asked to participate in live surveys to gauge approval on certain aspects of cannabis. Interpretation services will be provided at both sessions.

Residents also can contact their city council member or provide feedback through the AskPasco smartphone app if they’re unable to attend either meeting.

The push to re-examine the city’s ban on cannabis retail was sparked over the summer by the owners of Spokane-based Lucky Leaf Co. dispensary, who are trying to open a shop in downtown Pasco.

Businesses and the public are broadly split on the issue.

A 2021 community survey asked Pasco residents if they would back changes to allow marijuana retail sales in city limits. Results showed 45% said they would strongly or somewhat support it, while 46% said they would not and 10% said they “didn’t know.”
