A homeowner in Texas was left in shock upon the grisly discovery of a deceased 15-year-old boy in front of their residence late at night.

After the homeowner found the boy's body on Saturday, May 30, around 11:30 p.m. in New Caney, she called 911 to report that there was an unknown deceased person in front of their residence, the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office confirmed in a statement.

Patrol deputies with the MCSO then reported to the scene, where they confirmed the individual was a "15-year-old Black male who appeared to have sustained a gunshot wound."

Deputies immediately started to perform lifesaving measures on the teen. However, it was too late and the victim ultimately succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene.

The homeowner wasn't the only person to find the boy, as a woman told ABC affiliate KTRK that she was returning home with her family late that night when she saw the body in front of her neighbor's house. She then called authorities to report her findings.

The woman added that she did not personally know the victim, though she had seen him before and knew that he lived in the neighborhood.

The circumstances surrounding the boy's death currently remain unknown. However, police are currently considering the case a potential homicide.

MCSO Major Crimes Detectives said that they are working with Crime Scene Investigators after launching an active investigation regarding the shooting.

Authorities have asked that anyone with information regarding the case call the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office at 936-538-5900. Those who wish to remain anonymous can call Multi-County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-392-STOP (7867).

The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office did not immediately respond to Us Weekly's request for comment regarding the case.

After the police department shared the news in a statement via social media on Sunday, May 31, several Facebook users took to the comments section to share their sadness over the incident.

"Not sure what this world is coming to, it's so sad! Prayers for the family of the deceased and those that found this young man," one person wrote, and another chimed in, "So sad, just a baby! Praying for his soul, and for his family and friends."

A mother also shared her empathy while writing that her son is about to be the same age as the victim. "My youngest is about to turn 15 … I absolutely cannot imagine. Prayers for his family," she wrote.
