Small earthquakes shake southern Colorado

DENVER - Sensors in southern Colorado recorded a small earthquake near Walsenburg early Monday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The 3.0-magnitude earthquake shook land roughly 3 miles southwest of Walsenburg just before 6:30 a.m. Monday, according to a report from the U.S. Geological Survey. This magnitude of earthquake is typically categorized as "weak" and does not cause significant damage, according to the agency.

A field manager with the Colorado Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management and local authorities were investigating the earthquake on Monday to determine if it impacted the community, according to state officials.

Another weak earthquake, roughly 2.3 in magnitude, was recorded roughly 4 miles southwest of Walsenburg late Sunday night, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. That earthquake happened at about 11:45 p.m., according to a report from the agency.
