Wife finds husband shot dead after he doesn’t pick up kids from school, Texas cops say
A Texas family was expecting their father to pick them up after school, but after he didn’t show, they found him shot to death at their home, officials told news outlets.
Deputies responded to the home in far northwest Houston on Friday, Nov. 15, and found the man dead at the scene with multiple gunshot wounds, Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Jose Torres, 37, was a dispatcher with the Spring Branch Independent School District Police Department, KPRC reported.
According to investigators, a “group of unknown people” opened fire on Torres at his home, killing him, the station reported.
“Jose leaves behind a wife and two beautiful daughters,” a statement from the SBISD Police Department read, the outlet reported. “He was taken from us by a senseless act of violence while he worked to make a better life for his family.”
He was supposed to pick up his wife and kids at 2:30 p.m., but his family had to get a ride from someone else, police told KHOU. After getting back, police say Torres’ family found him dead inside the home, with multiple shell casings scattered around, KTRK reported.
He had been doing yard work when the attack happened, police told the station.
Two days later, on Sunday, Nov. 17, investigators announced that Torres’ nephew has been arrested and is accused of killing him.
The nephew, identified as 22-year-old Antonio Guzman, is charged with murder, Gonzalez said, adding that he’s been booked into the Harris County Jail.
Officials have not said what may have motivated the killing.
