The Saginaw County man, who wished to remain anonymous, bought his ticket when he stopped to get gas, according to a July 8 news release from the Michigan Lottery.

While at the Saginaw store, he bought two $4,000,000 Ultimate instant game tickets.

“I scratched the barcodes, scanned the first ticket, and got a message to file a claim. I scanned the ticket again, and when that message came up a second time, I thought the scanner was broken. I scanned the second ticket and that scanned correctly, so I wasn’t sure what was going on,” he said, per the release.

When went to pump gas, he scratched the ticket and that’s when he saw how much he won.

“It’s hard to describe the feeling when I saw the winning amount. I got in the car and yelled: ‘We just won $4 million,’” he told lottery officials.

The 52-year-old man chose to receive his winnings as a one-time lump sum payment of roughly $2.7 million. He told lottery officials he plans to buy land and invest.
