Man dreaming of buying a home wins big lottery prize in Maryland. ‘I was stunned’
A man who has been dreaming of buying a home for his family is now one “giant step closer” to his goal — thanks to a lucky lottery win on a $10 instant ticket, officials said.
The occasional player bought a 50X The Cash scratch-off ticket while he was out grocery shopping in Maryland, he told Maryland lottery officials.
While normally he’d wait until he was home and finished unpacking the groceries, on this day he eagerly scratched the numbers off in the grocery store parking lot — and discovered he’d won the $100,000 top prize, officials said in a July 8 news release.
“It was very surprising,” he said. “I was stunned.”
The player had previously won amounts up to $500 with lottery games, but he never came close to approaching something as high as $100,000, he said.
“The happy man has been working toward buying a house and reports that the prize will help him with his goal,” officials said. “He also plans to celebrate his big win with his family by having a nice dinner out.”
There are three unclaimed $100,000 top prizes remaining, officials said.
