Kygo the dog meets superstar namesake after pup’s cancer diagnosis. See adorable video
There are now two famous Kygos gracing the hearts of New Yorkers and beyond.
While Kygo the DJ’s viral earworms have spread his name since the early 2010s, his new pal, Kygo the dog, is a more recent social media sensation. The two Kygos met at the Palm Tree Music Festival in Southampton on June 22.
Kygo the dog is 7 years old and a mutt — a mix of husky, malamute, poodle and collie. His owner, Ashley McClain, named him after the illustrious music producer. The pup was recently diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a bone cancer, and is currently undergoing radiation treatment for his condition. He doesn’t have much time left.
“It spread to his lungs, and now he has pneumonia, too,” Ashley told The Dogist in an Instagram video that’s been viewed 586,000 times. “I’m getting him out every day into the fresh air, trying to make him as happy as possible.”
“He really changed my life in so many ways. The only other thing I have left is for him to meet Kygo the DJ.”
Her tearful wish thundered across the internet in the days that followed, resulting in hundreds of messages to the Norwegian producer.
The internet did its magic, and not long after the interview, Kygo the DJ commented under it, “See you at Palm Tree Fest Hamptons… Can’t wait to meet you.”
In a video from the festival days later, McClain and Kygo the dog meet the pup’s namesake. The producer emerges from his trailer to an excited dog-and-human duo. There are hugs all around and photos taken.
Kygo the dog’s newfound fame forged another triumph. A GoFundMe McClain started March 9 to help cover the costs of Kygo’s medical bills has now raised $19,223 of its $20,000 goal.
Amid the tragedy of her pup’s failing health, the support and a chance to meet the musical sensation after whom her beloved pup was named has been a boost for McClain.
“An incredible weekend with memories we will cherish forever,” she wrote in an Instagram post about bringing together the dog and producer. “Thank you to everyone involved in making this bucket list dream come true.”
