Entire house for sale is … a giant basement? See the Utah lair ‘perfect for vampires’

Is there really a true exterior of the home?

At one point in their lives, someone, somewhere, said, “I think I need to live like a Fraggle” and poof! The underground house was born.

Ok, maybe these homes were built to conserve energy and keep a house cooler during scorching heat, but none of them has the curiosity of this two-bedroom, one-bathroom residence playing peek-a-boo with the above-ground world in Utah.

The $295,000 Sandy home is mostly underground, with the entrance looking like a roof with a doorway.

“There is no above grade living space, just the basement,” the listing on Zillow.com says. It should be noted that the 1,057-square-foot space is a fixer-upper and creative folks are encouraged to take a peek.

While it is called a “single family residence” on the listing, the photos show it’s simply a basement that could be tricked out by the right person.

“Potential options include: 1) Remodel the existing space or 2) Build a main floor onto the existing basement or 3) Get a variance from the city to split the lot (min. lot size is 7,000sf, but the city may allow the lot to be split as there are lots in the area around 3500 sf),” the listing notes. “Buyer must do their own due diligence including talking to Sandy city to determine if any of the above suggestions are possible.”

The home was featured on the popular TikTok page @zillowtastrophes, and the creator of the popular page seemed flabbergasted by not only the home itself, but its price tag as well.

“This 70-year-old basement is for sale for more than a quarter-of-a-million dollars,” the page creator said in her 25-second video. “Yes, you heard me right, it’s just a basement.”

Given, this is a steal for the city since the average home value of a Sandy house is $626,135, Zillow reports.

In the caption of the video, the creator said the residence is the “perfect house for a couple of vampires,” and folks in the comment section appeared to side with her.

“The only house I could hang Christmas lights on without a problem as a 5’2” person,” one person joked.

“Imagine the conspiracies that came out of that house,” another said.

“I had one in my neighborhood growing up in the ‘60’s. Think Cold War,” someone commented.

Sandy is about 20 miles south of Salt Lake City.
