A man’s body was pulled from an Atlanta-area lake hours after his friends reported him missing, Georgia deputies say.

Terry Daugherty, 57, of Atlanta, was found dead Tuesday, May 23, near a dock at the Sunrise Cove Marina on Lake Lanier in Gainesville, according to the Hall County Sheriff’s Office.

His body was in the water, not far from where he kept his boat, deputies said. A friend said they last saw him in the area around 9 p.m. on Monday, May 22.

Hall County Fire Rescue crews and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources searched the area until Daugherty’s body was found the next day.

Authorities didn’t release additional information.

Daugherty’s body was taken for an autopsy to determine his cause of death, deputies said.

Gainesville is about 55 miles northeast of downtown Atlanta.
