Pilot’s 437-mile flight path spreads Christmas cheer across Florida sky. Take a look
A pilot in Florida brought the skies some holiday cheer the week before Christmas.
Lt. Cdr. Nathan Mitich is attending flight school in Lakeland but wanted to spruce up his flight paths as he reached his flight time goals for the class, Fox 13 reported.
He planned an intricate Christmas design to fly: the shape of a Christmas tree, donned with a star, ornaments and lights.
Mitich’s 437-mile flight, which was in a Cessna Skyhawk aircraft, took over 4 hours to complete, according to flight records from Flight Aware.
The pilot took off just before 8:30 p.m. on Dec. 18 and finished just before 1 a.m. on Dec. 19, according to the flight records.
The planning took the longest, Mitich told WFLA, and said that he ran several practice flights to plot out the decoration before pulling off the festive stunt.
Lakeland is about 35 miles east of downtown Tampa.
