A 43-year-old man died after drivers were unable to avoid hitting him on a North Carolina interstate, officials said.

The man was on Interstate 40 when two cars struck him on Friday, Oct. 28, according to the Greensboro Police Department.

The pedestrian, who died at the scene, was identified in a news release as 43-year-old Jason Kidd of Greensboro.

Officials in their release didn’t say why Kidd was on the interstate and didn’t immediately share additional information with McClatchy News on Oct. 31.

Officers continue to investigate the deadly wreck, which was reported at about 7:45 p.m on I-40 east near Guilford College Road.

Police said the two drivers accused of running into Kidd stayed at the crash site. There was no way they could have dodged him, according to officials.

The same night as the crash, officers in a separate news release reported that a wreck had closed the interstate’s eastbound lanes near Interstate 73. The stretch later reopened to traffic.

Officials ask anyone with information about the crash to call Crime Stoppers at 336-373-1000. People also can share details through the P3 Tips smartphone application or at p3tips.com.
