Bruno the bulldog was taken from his family weeks ago. Video shows them finally reunite
Bruno the French Bulldog was taken from his California home nearly two weeks ago.
“It’s like getting one of our kids taken away, you know?” Denise Esparza, one of Bruno’s owners, told KRON at the time of his disappearance.
Now, after following leads that led detectives to two different cities, “Bruno is home,” the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office wrote in a Sept. 14 Facebook post.
The 1-year-old pup from San Lorenzo was reunited with family after being found across state lines in Arizona, the sheriff’s office said.
In a video of the reunion posted online by the sheriff’s office, Bruno can be seen rushing to his family, including two young children, outside the sheriff’s Eden Township Substation.
“Hi! My baby, my baby. I missed you,” one of the family members can be heard saying in the video, as Bruno excitedly greets the family.
“This was quite the reunion!” the sheriff’s office wrote on Facebook.
To find him, the sheriff’s office said it followed up on leads from video surveillance and a partial license plate number. Detectives were able to get a “grand theft warrant” for one of the suspects “captured on video during the theft.”
“Our detectives worked the case from San Lorenzo, to the city of Pomona, and then to Wilcox, Arizona,” the sheriff’s office said.
About 30 miles from the New Mexico state line, Arizona State Troopers found Bruno in the backseat of the suspect’s vehicle during a traffic stop, the sheriff’s office said.
“The suspects were arrested,” according to the sheriff’s office.
McClatchy News reached out to the sheriff’s office and is awaiting a response.
Alameda County detectives flew to Tucson where they met two Wilcox detectives who volunteered to drive Bruno nearly two hours to meet them, officials said.
“Thanks to the assistance we received from the Pomona PD, the Arizona State Troopers, and the Wilcox Department of Public Safety, we were able to provide Bruno and his family a very happy ending,” Alameda County Sheriff’s Office wrote.
San Lorenzo is about 20 miles southeast of San Francisco.
