A dog was left bloodied, chained and in pain after someone dragged it, by car, down a concrete road in Ohio, an animal rescue group says.

The black and white dog, named Oreo, is now in the care of Animal Charity of Ohio after being rescued Sunday, May 29, the group said in a Facebook post.

The Youngstown Police Department responded to a morning phone call from a witness and located the injured animal outside a home on the city’s east side.

Witnesses told investigators that the dog had been dragged about 100 yards “then chained up in the backyard,” according to the group. The car was driving at around 35 mph, witnesses estimated.

A photo shared in the post shows what appears to be blood splattered on the road.

Rescuers sedated Oreo to treat her numerous wounds, including broken toes on all four paws, and road rash across her abdomen. The skin on Oreo’s paws was also torn away during dragging.

“Despite the horrific abuse Oreo just endured she is still wagging her tail and wants to be held,” the post said. “We will continue to monitor throughout the day, she is resting comfortably right now with pain medication and antibiotics on board.”

Police say a humane agent is investigating the incident and that charges may be filed in the future, TV station WFMJ reported.
