A woman was stabbed approximately 50 times with a screwdriver at an Arizona auto parts shop, police said.

The woman was looking for a part for her van at the Pull N Save in Glendale on March 19, police said in a probable cause statement.

She was with 31-year-old Joel Andrew Wier, and the two were driven to the shop by his mother, police said.

Wier went in the shop after the woman and is accused of beating her and stabbing her about 50 times in head, neck and shoulder, police said.

Police said they found the injured woman near a van at the store and a bloody screwdriver and folded knife next to her.

Wier had blood on his hands, police said, and he was held in the van by employees until officers arrived.

Employees told police that Wier repeatedly said that he didn’t stab the woman. They told police he was rambling and looked “out of it.”

The woman was taken to a hospital for surgery with life-threatening injuries, police said.

Wier would not speak to police when they questioned him about the stabbing, police said.

He faces charges of attempted aggravated assault causing serious physical injury, second-degree attempted murder, resisting arrest and two counts of aggravated assault.

His bail is set at $500,000. His next court hearing is March 25 in Phoenix.
