Pizzeria owner fends off machete-wielding robber with pizza, Delaware police say

When a man armed with a machete demanded money, the owner of a Delaware restaurant fought back with everything he had — a pizza, state police say.

The owner of Stargate Pizza in Greenwood was closing his restaurant at 10:30 p.m. Friday when a man carrying a machete approached, police wrote.

After the man demanded money, the owner told him he had none — and then threw a pizza at him, according to police. The would-be robber ran away.

The owner was not hurt in the incident, police reported. The robber ran to a vehicle and drove away on Sussex Highway.

State police asked that anyone with information on the crime call Troop 5, at 302-337-8253 or Delaware crime stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333 or via the internet at http://www.delaware.crimestoppersweb.com.
