Former ‘Mythbusters’ host fed up with San Francisco thieves targeting his vehicle

Adam Savage says he has a “new project” to keep him busy.

The former co-host of “Mythbusters” says in a series of posts on Twitter he’ll be upgrading the security on his Land Cruiser after twice being targeted by thieves in the past four months.

While the show became famous for all kinds of jury-rigged contraptions used to test popular myths, Savage says he won’t be going quite that far.

“For the record I’m NOT installing any ‘traps’ in the car. Only passive security, engine cut off, and recording features,” Savage clarified on Twitter.

In September, Savage, who now lives in San Francisco, reported on Twitter that someone had broken into his Land Cruiser and stolen a beloved prop from the show — a replica of the whip wielded by Indiana Jones in “Raiders of the Lost Ark” and other films.

“It was a beautiful piece,” Savage wrote, asking that anyone spotting it speak up.

On Saturday, Savage reported on Twitter that this time thieves had stolen the entire vehicle.

“Woke up to my land cruiser missing,” Savage wrote. “Check security camera, it was Hotwired and driven away at 4am!”

But San Francisco police found the purloined vehicle almost immediately - stuck in the mud.

In a series of Twitter posts, Savage detailed the tortuous process of extracting the Land Cruiser, which involved the first tow truck called to the scene also getting stuck.

Then efforts to remove the first tow truck damaged a neighbor’s fence, which also had to be fixed, Savage reported. But he seemed to be taking the troubles in stride.

“We also have a whole audience of neighbors,” Savage wrote. “This is so awesome. I’m having a great time.”

The towers finally pulled the Land Cruiser from the mud, Savage wrote. A blown fuse seemed to be the only mechanical problem, although the thieves had cleaned out the vehicle.

“I had some little doodads in there, but everything is gone; although he did leave a bottle of bear repellent spray,” Savage said, The San Francisco Chronicle reported. “I have no idea why.”

A vehicle’s broken into every 22 minutes in San Francisco, police reported in October, according to KGO.
