Reminder: Registration for additional Hanford tours has started

Registration starts at 9 a.m. June 1 for more bus tours focused on environmental cleanup across the Hanford nuclear reservation.

Registration for the tours that were initially scheduled in 2016 filled most seats within a couple of hours, so a second round of free tours have been added.

The additional tours will be Aug. 2, 3, 10, 16, 17, 24, 30 and 31 and Sept. 7 and 8. Tours are offered only on weekdays to allow participants to see work being done.

They start at 8 a.m. at the HAMMER Training Center at 2890 Horn Rapids Road in Richland. Participants must be at least 18 years old and U.S. citizens.

Registration is offered online only at www.hanford.gov. Participants will want to check the identification requirements online because Washington state driver’s licenses are not Real ID compliant and a second form of government-issued identification may be required.

This year visits to historic B Reactor are not included in the environmental cleanup tours, but separate tours of the reactor and other historic sites are offered.
