State nuclear task force meets in Kennewick
The Washington State Legislature’s Joint Select Task Force on Nuclear Energy will meet Oct. 29 in Kennewick.
The task force will hear information from the state Energy Facility Site Evaluation Council related to a study championed by state Sen. Sharon Brown, R-Kennewick, looking at siting small modular nuclear reactors in the state.
Information on a project to operate the first NuScale Power small modular reactor also will be covered. NuScale is working with Utah Associated Municipal Power Systems and Energy Northwest in Richland to operate its first small reactor, likely in Idaho.
The three-hour meeting starts at 8:30 a.m. at Three Rivers Convention Center, 7106 W. Grandridge Blvd., Kennewick.
