School retirees’ groups announce scholarships

For the first time, the Benton Franklin School Retirees’ Association awarded three $1,000 scholarships to students enrolled in the School of Education at Washington State University Tri-Cities. The winners are Kylee Chiesa, who will graduate in 2017 with a degree in special education and is a graduate of Southridge High School in Kennewick; David Isley will also graduate in 2017 and will work in the primary grades and is a graduate of Chiawana High School in Pasco; and David Ryther, who will graduate this year and plans to teach middle school math. He is a graduate of Kennewick High School.

Three winners from the state School Retirees’ Association’s Benton/Franklin, Walla Walla, and Asotin/Dayton region are from the Tri-City area: Madalyn Jacobs from Connell High School, Kaitlin Rosenthal from Richland High School and Trevor Roberts from Kamaikin High School.

Madalyn and Kaitlin, recipients of the Robert J. Handy Scholarship, will receive $900/year for up to four years. Trevor received the WSSRA-Foundation Scholarhsip, a one-time grant of $1,500.
