Tri-City schools recognized for academic progress
Three Tri-City schools were recently recognized by the state for the progress their students have made.
Kennewick’s Lincoln and Southgate elementary schools and Pasco’s James McGee Elementary were among the more than 250 schools across the state named Washington Achievement Award winners, according to a news release.
The awards emphasize schools that have made substantial progress in improving student performance. Winners are determined by the state Board of Education’s Achievement Index and three years worth of scores from statewide standardized tests.
Lincoln was recognized for high progress, meaning the school was in the top 10 percent of schools making the most progress in the state’s language arts or math assessments.
Southgate was noted for its growth in language arts and McGee for growth in math. Those honors mean the schools are in the top 5 percent of the three-year average in growth metrics for those subjects.
