Awards & Achievements for May 15
▪ Saint Mary’s College in Notre Dame, Ind., has announced that Adriana Ledesma of Richland was named to the dean’s list for the fall 2015 semester.
▪ Madeline Quick of Richland was named to the fall semester dean’s list at Simmons College in Boston. Her major is nursing.
To qualify, undergraduate students must obtain a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher.
▪ The National Merit Battelle Scholarship winners are:
Nathan J. McDonald, Richland High School, probable career field: chemical engineering.
Emily Q. Tan, Hanford High School, probable career field: finance.
Michelle L. Wang, Hanford High, probable career field: medicine.
Ryan Wang, Hanford High, probable career field: computer science.
Brendan J. Mitchell, Hanford High, probable career field: engineering.
▪ The National Merit Dow Chemical Company Scholarship winner is Laura M. Yoshida, Richland High School, probable career field: computer science.
▪ Evelyn Martinez will receive a master of science degree in educational leadership from the College of Education at Washington State University.
Her thesis is, “Working smarter, not harder: First-year student engagement in educational practices.”
She received a bachelor of science in psychology and a bachelor of arts in sociology from WSU in 2013.
She is the daughter of Jeorjina Martinez and Thomas Martinez of Warden.
▪ The following students are slated to graduate from Whitman College in Walla Walla during a May 22 commencement ceremony.
Moses Lake — Benjamin Shoemake, gender studies.
Pasco — Brenna Feeney, music (performance), politics; Isaac Sappington, biochemistry, biophysics, & molecular biology.
Richland — Megan Gauglitz, art.
Walla Walla — Liezel Lenhart, biochemistry, biophysics, & molecular biology; Marcos Medina-Saldaña, economics-mathematics.
West Richland — Hannah Horner, mathematics.
