Kennewick district, ESD 123 selected for computer science grants
The Kennewick School District and Pasco-based Educational Service District 123 will receive grants to support computer science education efforts.
The two districts were among more than two dozen entities, from school districts to a university, selected to receive the first round of funding of $4 million from the state and Washington STEM, a Seattle-based organization that promotes science, technology, engineering and math, or STEM, education, a release said.
Those receiving grants are required to match the money dollar for dollar with private partners. The money will be used for professional development for teachers, new technology for schools and expand access to STEM offerings to girls and others underrepresented in those fields.
