Sunnyside High principal wins state award
The principal of Sunnyside High School was named state high school principal of the year by a state association of administrators.
Ryan Maxwell’s recognition from the Association of Washington School Principals makes him the Washington state nominee for the national principal award, a release said.
District officials credited Maxwell with helping turn the school around, achieving a district graduation rate of 90 percent this year, up from the 42 percent reported in 2007. Sunnyside High was also named a School of Distinction for performing in the top 5 percent in reading and math assessments.
