Hanford, Richland high schools earn first at regional math competition

Hanford and Richland high schools dominated at the recent Math is Cool high school regional competition.

In the individual competition, Michael Shuen, Hanford, placed first in pre-calculus and Brian Fang, Richland, placed first in algebra 2. In the team competition, Hanford High placed first in the freshman/sophomore division.

Other top finishers:

Pre-calculus: Michael Shuen, Hanford, sophomore, first place; Christopher Kang, Hanford, sophomore, second place; Vincent Johnson, Richland, sophomore, fifth place.

Algebra 2: Brian Fang, Richland, freshman, first place; Annie Shen, Hanford, freshman, second place; Kevin Yang, Hanford, freshman, third place.

Calculus: Alex Fang, Hanford, junior, second place; An Wang, Hanford, senior, third place; Omar Ibrahim, Hanford, junior, fifth place.

In the freshman/sophomore team competition, Hanford earned first place and Richland earned second place. In the junior/senior team competition, Hanford earned second place and Richland earned fourth place.

Richland High was coached by Kelly Casto, and Hanford was coached by Sonia Moursund.
