About 400 elementary and middle school students will be at Richland’s Chief Joseph Middle School on Dec. 5 for a regional LEGO robotics tournament.

The FIRST LEGO League South Sound Qualifying Tournament is from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the school at 504 Wilson St. The public is invited to the free event.

Students competing will be challenged to build, test and program a robot using LEGOS to complete a given mission. The competition’s theme is “Trash Trek,” and the challenge will focus on solving problems regarding trash, such as sorting and collection.
