  • District cites staff conduct policies and withholds personnel details pending review.
  • A city councilman condemned the post, calling the teacher a “vile piece of trash.”

The Kennewick School District is reviewing a social media post allegedly made by a Chinook Middle School teacher that referenced the murder of prominent conservative political influencer Charlie Kirk this week.

Screenshots of the social media post began circulating Thursday afternoon on Facebook. The teacher quotes Mark Twain, writing, “I have never wished a man dead, but I have read some obituaries with great pleasure.” Kirk’s name was not included in the post.

The school district in a Friday letter to families said it was aware of public concerns regarding the post.

“We take reports very seriously and are reviewing the situation thoroughly,” the letter reads. “Our district has clear policies and procedures in place to address allegations of staff misconduct, and we are committed to ensuring they are followed.”

The district says while it cannot share details around personnel matters, it is following established procedures to “review and respond appropriately.” A spokesperson for the district called speculation the teacher had already been fired “a false rumor.”

Brad Beauchamp, an elected official on the Kennewick City Council, wrote in a Thursday night post to his personal Facebook that the teacher was a “vile piece of trash.”

“This cannot be tolerated. Only the worst of the worst celebrate the slaughter of another human being. She should not be involved in any children’s learning,” he wrote.

Kirk, the 31-year-old founder of Turning Point USA and a prominent advocate of conservative causes on college campuses, was killed by a gunman in a targeted attack Wednesday during a public event in Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah.

Beauchamp reportedly graduated from the school in 2003, per his social media biography.

The suspect, who was not a student at UVU, was arrested Thursday at his family’s home about 240 miles south of the crime scene.

Kirk’s death has been condemned by public officials on both sides of the political aisle, and some have connected it to a rising trend in political violence that has occurred in recent years.
