Sneak a peek at 2 new Tri-Cities high schools. Teachers get ready to move in

Pasco School District administrators have just one more month to go until construction wraps and contractors hand them the keys to begin moving into the Tri-Cities’ two newest high schools.

Both the $126 million Sageview High School and $28 million Orion High School will open to students this fall in time for the 2025-26 school year.

Sageview is the region’s eighth comprehensive high school. The two-story, 300,000-square-foot building will serve upward of 2,000 students on a 65-acre campus, and will feature a signature CTE agriculture program.

Students will take advantage of similar education, extracurricular and athletic programs as their peers at Chiawana and Pasco highs. The mascot will be the “Lobos,” which is Spanish for wolves.

Workers have completed 96% of its 108-week schedule. It remains on-schedule and on-budget, and will be complete Aug. 4.

Occupancy will begin Aug. 5, when teacher move-ins are expected to begin.

A grand opening ribbon cutting event will take place 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 18, at 6091 Burns Rd.

Orion will serve as a specialized career and college academy exclusively for Pasco families. The new facility in east Pasco spans 65,000 square feet and will serve upward of 600 high school students, who will graduate with workforce-ready certifications, credentials and experience.

Enrollment applications for first-year Orion students closed in February. Its signature programs include health sciences, engineering and advanced manufacturing.

The project is 93% complete on a 71-week construction schedule. It also remains on-schedule and on-budget, and will be complete Aug. 5.

Occupancy and teacher move-ins are expected around Aug. 8.

A ribbon cutting event for Orion is set for 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 19, at 1901 E. Salt Lake St.

Throughout July, crews at the two schools will conduct final punch lists and deliver furniture to the two schools.

Sageview will open to freshmen, sophomores and juniors during its first year. Incoming seniors, set to graduate in 2026, will remain in their current high school boundaries at either Chiawana or Pasco high schools.

Orion will open to just freshman due to its educational approach, and add subsequent grade levels in following years.

The two high schools are being paid for with a 21-year, $195.5 million capital bond measure passed by voters in 2023.

That bond is also funding other projects, including athletic facility upgrades at Pasco High School, CTE improvements at Pasco and Chiawana high schools, and future land purchases.
