Cafe owner gives hundreds of backpacks with school supplies to kids in need
Joel Watson, owner of Just Joel’s Cafe in Kennewick, handed out backpacks to Tri-Citians in Jay Perry Park in preparation for the start of school next week.
Following the success of a $25,000 fundraiser to buy headphones for students starting classes remotely because of the coronavirus pandemic, Watson started another donation drive to collect school supplies to give away to kids in need.
“Everybody pitched in, you know? And look what we did,” Watson said after the event, which drew a crowd of over 250 people.
