Kennewick High reconstruction reaches top milestone
Steel workers building the new Kennewick High School held a topping out ceremony on Monday morning.
‘Topping out’ is a builders’ rite traditionally held when the last beam is placed atop a structure during its construction.
The $87.4 million project will replace much of the school that opened in 1951 and includes a science wing, dining commons, courtyard and other features.
The new structure connects to the existing Lion’s Den gym and is designed to hold up to 2,000 students and is to open in August 2021.
