Top level work at Kennewick High School

A welder works from a boom lift on steel support beams on the second floor of the new two-story Kennewick High School building under construction.

A new 292,600-square-foot school will replace the one that opened in 1951 and includes a science wing, dining commons, courtyard and other features.

The new structure connects to the existing Lion’s Den gym and is designed to hold up to 2,000 students.

The estimated $87.4 million project is being paid for by local bond dollars and money from the state School Construction Assistance Program.

It’s scheduled to open August 2021.
