Students from Elizabeth Drane’s third-grade class take turns Wednesday signing their names on a steel beam for the new Jefferson Elementary School in Richland. The beam is scheduled to be lifted into place early next week. The 65,000-square-foot replacement school will house about 540 students.

The construction project was part of the district’s $98 million 2013 bond.
