Hanford teacher recognized for career readiness efforts

Laurie Price, a Hanford High School teacher, has been named Teacher of the Year for Career Counseling and Employment Readiness by the Washington Association of Career and Technical Education.

Price, a specialist in career choices and work-based learning, has worked to refine the district’s work-based learning program for students with special needs.

Price has also coordinated with local businesses to provide jobs for students with special needs. Businesses have included Kadlec Regional Medical Center, Heaston & Thompson Vision, West Side Preschool, Rite Aid, Walgreens, Wood’s Nursery, Ben Franklin Transit and Ace Hardware.

Price earned a master’s degree in special education from Central Washington University. She also holds certifications in business/marketing, career choices and work-based learning.
