Benton Sheriff’s Office warns of fake service techs visiting homes

Beware of people posing as service technicians to case houses, warns the Benton County Sheriff’s Office.

A Prosser resident reported that two young men came to her door wearing shirts that said “DirecTV” and said they were quality control technicians. They were driving an unmarked white passenger car.

She became suspicious of the questions they were asking and called DirecTV customer service. She was told its employees do not go door to door.

DirecTV technicians only come to a house after the company has been contacted by a customer, the sheriff’s office said.

Anyone suspicious about a visit from someone claiming to be a representative of any company should call the company for confirmation using a phone number that can be confirmed, the sheriff’s office said. Before calling the company, do not give out personal information or let anyone into the house, the sheriff’s office said.
