Eight people, most children, injured in crash outside Mabton
Eight people, most of them children, were injured Wednesday evening when two cars, driven by teens, crashed just outside Mabton.
Wendy Juarez-Pineda, 17, of Prosser was driving south in a Honda Odyssey on Glade Road while Enrique R. Reyna-Brito, 17, of Sunnyside was northbound in a Honda Civic, said a release from Washington State Police. Wendy reportedly crossed the center line, striking the car driven by Enrique.
Wendy was taken to Kadlec Regional Medical Center while passengers Ana Y. Juarez-Pineda, 16, and Karla Juarez-Pineda, 11, both from Prosser, were taken to PMH Medical Center and Maria Pineda, 37, also from Prosser, was taken to Sunnyside Community Hospital.
Enrique was taken by helicopter to Seattle Harborview Medical Center while one of his passengers, Eloy B. Reyna, 70, of Sunnyside was taken to Sunnyside Community Hospital and the other, Jose R. Reyna, 18, also of Sunnyside, was taken to Yakima Memorial Hospital.
None of the statuses of those injured were immediately available.
State authorities said the crash is under investigation but charges are pending.
