Pasco man injured in crash outside Mattawa
A Pasco man was injured in a two-vehicle crash just north of Mattawa on Saturday morning.
Alfredo Herrera-Martinez, 20, of Pasco was driving southbound on Highway 243 in a Honda Civic five miles outside of Mattawa, said a release from Washington State Patrol. Candy L. Smith, 45, of Richland was coming from the north in a Ford F-150 pickup and hauling a 21-foot trailer.
Herrera-Martinez lost control of his car as he went around a corner in the roadway and crossed the center line. Smith swerved to avoid the Civic but the car struck the trailer.
Neither Herrera-Martinez nor Smith were injured though a passenger in Smith’s truck, Julio C. Bahenas-Flores, 36, of Pasco, was taken to Kadlec Regional Medical Center. His status was not immediately known.
State police say the crash was caused by Herrera-Martinez driving too fast and he was cited for second-degree negligent driving.
