Walla Walla police arrested a second driver involved in a street racing crash that injured a Walla Walla mom and her 10-year-old son.

Rick A. Plasencia-Torres, 20, of College Place, was arrested Thursday afternoon for his involvement, following interviews of witnesses and other investigative leads.

He was seen racing with Kamden T. Knaus, 26, of Walla Walla, away from the traffic light at Isaacs Avenue and Roosevelt moments before Knaus crashed into Andrea L. Lowe’s car, police said.

Plasencia-Torres was able to avoid striking the Lowe vehicle by slowing down prior to the collision.

Plasencia-Torres was jailed on two counts of complicity to commit second-degree vehicular assault.

Lowe suffered severe internal injuries and a broken pelvis when Knaus’ car struck the driver’s side of hers.

She was flown to Seattle for emergency surgery. Her 10-year-old was in the front seat on the passenger side. He suffered a possible broken jaw and was treated and later released at a local hospital.
