A Kennewick woman was taken to the hospital Thursday night after the shed she was smoking and drinking in caught fire, according to police reports.

The Kennewick Police Department was called at 9:20 p.m. to assist the Kennewick Fire Department after receiving reports of an explosion and a large shed on fire at 306 E. Seventh Ave.

Callers said an unconscious woman was lying beside the shed.

Police found a 50-year-old woman who was very intoxicated and uncooperative with officers, according to police reports.

She admitted to smoking and drinking in the backyard shed until she fell asleep and accidentally started the fire, according to police reports. She was taken to Trios Southridge Hospital for treatment.

A Benton PUD pole and a truck parked near the shed were damaged by the fire. The shed was destroyed.

The fire department is continuing to investigate the cause of the fire as suspicious.
