Fire officials are continuing to investigate a Sunday afternoon fire that burned about 20 acres next to the Yakima River in Richland.

Firefighters were called to the Queensgate area about 4:30 p.m. after someone reported the fire burning on land between the river and Hill’s Mobile Home Park, said battalion captain Randy Aust with the Richland Fire Department.

About 20 firefighters ended up working to extinguish the fire. Some fencing near some homes was damaged otherwise only sagebrush and a few Russian olive trees were burned. Smoke from the fire reportedly stalled traffic on Interstate 182.

Benton fire districts 2 and 4 assisted at the scene.
