Knife-wielding man threatens Kennewick officers, stabs patrol car
An unidentified man who attempted to hop on a passing train ended up in custody in Kennewick after a prolonged confrontation Saturday with police that included stabbing a police vehicle and three Taser hits.
A railroad employee told police that a man was trespassing on railroad property at East Columbia Drive and North Kingwood Drive and was attempting to get onto passing trains.
When he refused to comply with police orders, backup units arrived and the man brandished a large hunting knife, telling them to kill him.
Officers used a Taser twice during a subsequent foot chase, but it had no apparent effect.
He was surrounded at East First Avenue where, still brandishing the knife, he advanced on a slow-moving police vehicle and stabbed the hood twice.
A third Taser hit dislodged the knife and the man was taken into custody. Witnesses are asked to call 509-628-0333.
