Fire burns brush near east Pasco park
A fire that broke out late Wednesday night next to Pasco’s Schlagel Park scorched Russian olive trees, sagebrush and grass.
Firefighters were called to the park about 11:30 p.m., said Pasco fire Capt. Jeff Cooley. The blaze was burning in the space between the railroad tracks and the east Pasco park next to the Columbia River.
Three fire trucks and five firefighters limited the fire to an area roughly 60-by-110 feet, Cooley said. Pasco police also assisted.
Cooley credited the night’s still air and that the region hasn’t entered the driest part of the season for helping firefighters keep it under control.
“It was just very slow moving,” he said.
No property was damaged. The cause of the fire hasn’t been determined and is under investigation.
