Firefighters from around the Mid-Columbia responded Wednesday to help fight a wildfire near Plymouth.

Benton Fire District 6 requested mutual aid, and crews came from Richland, Kennewick, Benton fire districts 1, 2 and 4 and Franklin County.

The fire was in a remote area off Plymouth Road, north of Highway 14 in southern Benton County. Firefighters were using bulldozers to try and cut fire breaks to keep it from spreading.

The fire fanned by gusting winds was burning wildland. It was not immediately clear how it started.

Benton Fire District 1's spokesman, Capt. Devin Helland, tweeted shortly before 7 p.m. that the fire was 100 percent contained.
