Police say poor choices lead to DUI arrests in Kennewick
A woman calling in about a car following her and a man refusing to heed the advice of police led both to be arrested for DUI in Kennewick this weekend:
▪ Andrea Mallonee, 47, of Kennewick, called 911 late Saturday to report a vehicle had been tailing her for 10 minutes, a Kennewick police briefing said. Officers met her at a parking lot in the 4400 block of West 10th Avenue.
However, while police stopped the car behind her, Mallonee continued through the parking lot and nearly hit a patrol car. She was arrested and booked into the Benton County jail on suspicion of DUI.
And the car following her?
It was a friend making sure Mallonee made it home safe because she’d been drinking, said the police briefing.
▪ Kennewick police were called early Sunday to the Kadlec Medical Center stand-alone emergency room at 19th Avenue and Highway 395 after Jonathan M. Norris began causing a disturbance, said police.
ER employees told officers the 31-year-old Kennewick man was under the influence. But Norris was disruptive and eventually walked away from the officers and to his car. He was warned not to get inside.
“He got in his car, started the engine and then backed up,” the briefing said. “When he backed up he ran into another vehicle.”
When he still refused to get out, he was arrested and handcuffed. Officer had to carry him to a patrol vehicle.
Norris was booked into the Benton County jail on suspicion of DUI.
