Two arrested after threats made in Kennewick’s Zintel Canyon

A man and teenager were arrested Sunday for allegedly threatening to shoot two people walking in Zintel Canyon.

Kennewick police were called to the area around Seventh Avenue and Vancouver Street where the male victim waved them down. He pointed at two figures running east through Vancouver Park, causing officers to pursue and catch them. Both were intoxicated and uncooperative.

The victim told police he was in the canyon when Tariq Al Shamary, 20, of Kennewick and the 17-year-old teen, also from Kennewick, threatened to shoot him, reached toward their waistbands and moved toward him. A search of the area found no weapons.

Al Shamary was booked into the Benton County jail for felony threats, alcohol consumption and obstructing. The teen was booked into the juvenile justice center on the same charges as Al Shamary.
