UPDATE: McGee Elementary lockdown related to false abduction report

A lockdown at McGee Elementary in Pasco early Wednesday afternoon was based on a false report of children being abducted.

The lockdown started at 12:58 p.m. and lasted about 20 minutes, meaning no one was allowed to enter or leave the school, the district said in a statement on its website.

“Principal Wendy Lechelt-Polster and her staff took immediate steps to make sure that all students were safe and accounted for,” the statement said.

It was not immediately clear if the abduction report was made in error or intentionally falsely reported.

The incident comes only a day after two girls were reportedly approached and followed by a man in a white Mercedes Benz SUV at a play field near the school. Police are still seeking the man and encourage those with information call 509-545-3510.
