Student arrested following threat, lockdown at Walla Walla High

A Walla Walla High School student was arrested Wednesday morning after a tip about a weapon being brought to campus earlier in the week put the school in lockdown.

Local law enforcement told school officials they had information a student came to school with a weapon on Tuesday, prompting school officials to put the school and SEA-TECH Skills Center in a “modified” lockdown for about 45 minutes until the student was taken into custody, a release said.

A modified lockdown means all external doors are locked to limit access to a school but classroom activities continue, said district spokesman Mark Higgins.

Details about the weapon reportedly brought on school grounds were not provided. Higgins said he did not have information about the student’s intent in bringing the weapon to campus and that Walla Walla Police are investigating.
