Violent offender task force apprehends Tri-City man
The U.S. Marshals Service and the Richland Police Department took a Tri-City man with a history of burglaries, weapons charges, assaults and narcotics offenses stretching back to at least 2001 into custody Tuesday morning.
Marc Steven White, 36, had been a fugitive for more than three months, according to the Marshals Service, which used its Pacific Northwest Violent Offender Task Force to catch White.
He was apprehended after a brief standoff on Torbett Street in Richland, said deputy marshal Isaac Sanchez. Law enforcement set up a perimeter around the house and used a loud speaker before he came out 20 to 30 minutes later.
Some other people in the house also were taken into custody, but details are not being released yet, Sanchez said.
“The community is a lot safer now that Marc White is off the streets, especially due to his extensive violent criminal history,” said deputy marshal Darrick Swick, the task force leader, in a statement.
Other Tri-City area law enforcement agencies helped with surveillance as numerous homes were ruled out before a location for White was discovered earlier this week, according to the Marshals Service.
White was in the news in August as a passenger in a high-speed chase from Richland to Kennewick after a Kennewick detective and state corrections officer spotted White, a fugitive, in the car. The car White was riding in reached speeds of 90 mph.
The car stopped at the Tri-Cities Center strip mall in Kennewick. Employees at the Jiffy Lube on West Canal Drive waved down police, who found White inside. White had a felony warrant from the Washington State Department of Corrections.
In February, two Benton County arrest warrants were issued for White related to possession of methamphetamine. He also was wanted for failing to appear for a court hearing for the Drug Sentencing Alternative Program, according to the Marshals Service.
White’s criminal record stretches back to at least 2001, when the Herald reported that at the age of 21 he was sentenced to 22 months in prison after pleading guilty to second-degree illegal possession of a firearm and third-degree assault.
